Pet Ultrasounds

An ultrasound examination is a non-invasive imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce various images of certain structures or internal organs within your pet's body. These images often provide information that is valuable in diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and conditions, such as liver, urinary tract or heart diseases and some cancers. Many times x-rays or radiographs, which reveal the size, dimensions and position of the organs, will be utilized in conjunction with an ultrasound examination.

The ultrasound examination utilizes a sonar device or probe that is placed on the outside of your pet's body. Anesthesia or sedation is not usually necessary when performing ultrasound examinations of the heart or abdomen. In some instances, fine needle aspirations of the internal organs may be guided with the assistance of the ultrasound probe.

Sun City Animal Hospital is able to arrange for an ultrasound to be performed at our facility by a board certified small animal internal medicine and infectious disease specialist or provide you with a referral to a local specialty veterinary facility.
